Fairplay, Colorado

The South Park Food Bank exists to serve our neighbors in need in the South Park Area (Jefferson, Como, Fairplay, Alma, and Hartsel). We have one monthly distribution day, usually the second Saturday of the month. We are also available to help people in emergency situations.
In addition to our monthly distribution, we help provide snacks for Fairplay schools and the Boys and Girls Club of the High Rockies. We work with the schools to send “Totes for Hope” home with students who need food for the weekend.
We are grateful to be a partner agency with the Food Bank of the Rockies, however, the South Park Food Bank would not exist without the support and generosity of our community. Our work is made possible by amazing donors and volunteers. Volunteers help us receive, unload, sort, arrange, and distribute food. Volunteers pick up and haul food from grocery stores, Colorado Farm to Table, and many other sources. Volunteers help us clean and maintain our facility. Service Learners from South Park Middle School pack the weekly Totes for Hope.

Our Capital Campaign Is Underway

Last Fall ‘24 we kicked off our Capital Campaign and we’ve been blown away by the generosity of our community. Our dream of our own building is in progress and we hope to break ground in the near future.
The Food Bank serves the entire South Park area. The Building Project creates a permanent home for the Food Bank and allows for expansion of services we currently offer —valued at an average of $300-$400 per month per family. Expansion of these services will include financial and nutritional literacy education for neighbors and expanded partnerships and collaborations with other agencies in South Park. By helping citizens with their grocery bill, they can take these funds and apply them to items such as gas, utilities, rent/house payments and more.
All these things lead to increased ability for our neighbors to successfully get to work, keep their jobs and keep their homes. It reflects our commitment to expanding economic prospects for all neighbors by alleviating food scarcity, providing budget protections and providing educational opportunities related to budgeting, nutrition and overall household management.
The Building Project has received designation as a State of Colorado Enterprise Zone Contribution Project, creating valuable tax incentives for donors. This means that when Colorado taxpayers donate $100 or more, they can claim 25% of that donation as a state income tax credit.
